Jim Goss is a singer/ songwriter from Maine. An End to the Long Winter is his first solo release. Jim has also been on recordings by the bands Symmetry, the Sense and Bob and the Trubadors.
Musical influences range from James Taylor and Joni Mitchell to Steely Dan, Sting, Seal and Rush. Although his early years were spent listening to his brother's records full of the Allman Brothers and Deep Purple or listening to AM radio or Christian rockers Phil Keaggy, Keith Greene and the 2nd Chapter of Acts he later gravitated to progressive rock bands such as Rush and Yes and discovered jazz through Chuck Mangione, Bill Evans and Steps Ahead. Later came the wonders of Al Jarreau, Stevie Wonder, Earth Wind and Fire, Chaka Kahn and Rufus.
Primarily a singer and trained piano and keyboard player, Jim bought his first acoustic guitar in high school and slowly taught himself to play. After years of touring as a keyboardist the guitar provided new textures and patterns for his songwriting.
An End to the Long Winter represents a return to song writing after a long dormant period of life filled with children, career and marriage. These songs were inspired by dreams and were all written between 2008 and 2011. Jim practices Integrative and Archetypal Dreamwork and finds that his subconscious mind provides plenty of material for lyrics and sometimes music as well.
Jim's 2nd solo album - Coming Out of Turn #3 is currently underway and due for release in 2016.
